Are you considering a new haircut or style? There are many things you need to consider when selecting a new hair style, such as: how much time you want to spend maintaining a particular style, whether the texture of your hair will suit the hairstyle you have selected and finally the shape of your face.
This article will address choosing the right style for your face shape.
The first thing to determine is the shape of your face and the easiest way to accomplish this is:
Pull your hair back off your face and secure it. Look straight into a mirror and outline your face with lipstick either directly on the mirror or a piece of transparent paper. Another option is to take a photo of you with your hair securely tied back and outline the picture. Now examine the picture closely and compare it to the different types of face shapes (round, oval, square, triangle, oblong, heart, diamond). While at first it may seem to match a few different shapes it is more than likely your face will be closely resemble one shape over all other.
Round Shaped Face - The round face has the same width forehead as the lower face. Consider a circle which is the same width at the top as it is at the bottom. Additionally round shaped faces have prominent cheeks. You can elongate the face and minimize the fullness with a haircut that frames the face. In addition to framing the face a side part or slightly off center part helps minimize fullness. Long, flowing strands that cover the side of the face will temper the check bones and create a longer chiseled illusion.
Square Shaped Face - The best length is 1 1/2 inches below the chin or shoulder length. Additionally layered hair helps to soften the jaw line. Consider parting your hair down one side with a side sweep to create a different angle. Face framing layers and a side part can also soften an angular bone structure. Consider a shaggy layered cut with a deep side part to balance the strong angular features.
Oval Shaped Face - Consider an oval, the top and bottom are the same size with longer sides. Oval shaped faces can wear any style; however I suggest that you have your hair away from the face and not to have too full bangs. However, no matter the length of your cut, you'll look best with layers near your cheekbones, lips or chin, basically whatever feature you want to highlight. Avoid short layers that add height on top of your head. This will make your face appear long.
Heart Shaped Face - Just as the name implies the face is wide at the cheekbones and forehead and narrow at the jaw line. A side part with bangs and chin length or longer with layers will elongate the face. By ending the hair at the chin it gives the illusion of an oval face instead of a pointy chin.
Diamond Shaped Face - are widest at cheekbones, and have a narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal widths. Consider a hairstyle that add width at the chin area such as chin length bob cuts or shoulder length wispy kicked out looks. Haircuts that are styled tucked in behind the ears also work well to show off your wonderful cheek bone structure work well too. Also, consider straight across bangs to shorten longer faces and well as side parts.
Oblong Shaped Face - Have high foreheads and long chins. In order to minimize the length of the face avoid hairstyles that add a lot of volume at the crown or on top. Bangs are also good to shorten a long face.
